We attended the Ganesh Chaturthi festival at the Balaji Temple in Birmingham last Sunday. The Ganesh Idol (Murti) is taken on a procession to the river where it is submerged into the river to merge with the elements. Here are a few photos.

Like the set, particularly the second one.

I will not pretend I understand any religion, but I do like the ceremonies that go with many of them, especially the polytheistic ones. They seem a lot more of a celebration than for instance catholic ceremonies.
