Can we ignore the fact that Google tried to let this die on the vine by giving it away free at one time? I owned it before Google bought it.

Read the detail here: https://nikcollection.dxo.com/whats-new

More info here: https://www.dpreview.com/news/85198...-usability-powerful-new-tools-in-major-update

It seems there is a bit of an interface update, but not to all parts of it.

"In Nik Collection 4, Viveza and Silver Efex feature revamped user interfaces. The plugins now feature a modern interface that is both simpler and more functional. Users can scroll and filter through all available presets, filter types, and favorites along the left side of the interface. On the right side of the interface are all the sliders and Control Point tools users have come to expect from Nik plugins."

They're quite destructive editing tools - useful for quick effects but given what they cost you could buy the supreme DXO photolab 4 for that.

$59 on upgrade. Silver Efex is still my favourite way to do mono.

I use Topaz Labs for the most part. I have the NIK collection but find it a tad annoying that a company takes over some useful free software (that I paid for originally before it was free), tweaks it and tries to charge a fortune for it afterwards. Not impressed, especially considering it's limited usefulness.

I see it differently. Google devalued it. What DxO charges now is still cheaper than the first time I bought Nik. I use Topaz as well, but different functionality, I have DeNoise. Gigapixel and Sharpen.
