Oh I do apologize, I have been so busy lately with accepting the most recent awards for winning various things and also adding an amplifier system here for my latest acceptance speech

So many runners-up were present at this last speech that the old amplifier wasn't powerful enough to reach the losers at the back and I didn't want them to miss out on hearing my sincere appreciation of their taking part.

It's simply yet another consideration that one has to take as such a consistent winner like myself. So I'm very pleased to see that you still remember to visit this part of the forum and rest assured that I also remain compassionately aware of your attempts even in the light of the miniscule chances you face of ever understanding this kind of duty that befalls winners.

And I've been in deep conversations with current book publishers regarding the financial gains which can be achieved as soon as I decide which of my award winning photos should be published book style. I'm kinda waffling on the idea though, as my current toaster is not large enough to thoroughly toast frozen books.

I do understand your problem with frozen books, although I have never experienced that particular problem since the many books that have been written about my continual stream of winnings are kept in that large library in the mansion I mentioned earlier - that's kept at the proper temperature and at the correct humidity to preserve the large collection of such volumes. I do not suggest you utilise a toaster, even a sizeable one capable of toasting waffles, since photographic paper doesn't respond well to such high temperatures.
I do like your idea of keeping the photographic paper at a freezing temperature though, that way it could keep for the long times you might need to keep it before contemplating the production of a photo which you may think could be a possible runner-up.

It's a matter of public knowledge that where I live involves 6 months of freezing weather and frost incursion into our poorly heated homes. One wood stove in the kitchen is not a reliable method of heating storage spaces beyond the main living area which happens to be the only room in the house that has such a heating device. Of course we have life much easier due to the fact that Canadians are not necessarily confined to the igloos we all lived in just mere years ago. Those whale oil lamps we used for heating and lighting are getting more and more scarce.

Seriously I do sometimes think that with all the central heating and other conveniences we live with in western Europe, we distance ourselves from the natural "habitat" too far, as far as to be detrimental to our general health. Personally I find it quite pleasantly refreshing to go out for a hike during the winter months when we are away from our Dutch home and in the village of Wengen in Switzerland, great view from our chalet apartment to the Jungfrau in the Alps. Seeing and being amongst the natural environment over there is a blessing and certainly brings me back to feeling more healthy. Another difference is to be seen and experienced in the way people treat their surroundings: a "little bit of snow" or "general winter weather" isn't any problem (we do not go there for the skiing season, that's just not my kind of fun with all the hills and gondolas stuffed full of tourists) - whereas the slightest few flakes back here in NL makes people run to the shops to stock up, the buses and trains to delay or cancel, and the roads to become full of immovable objects! Take me back 20 years or so and I would love to have emigrated to Canada all other things being equal. Life at a proper pace rather than rats running to bite off each others' tails.

I'll give you 'morning' and I'll even give the 'good' because for the first time this week the earthmoving workers weren't up at sparrowfart with their discotheque-like radio boomers and all of their shouting (they seem to have to shout to overcome the loudness of their radio...). So Good Morning and let's all have a good peaceful weekend!

You're quite welcome to the snowstorm that's happening here right now. It makes for a pretty weekend.

I wouldn't mind the snow as much as I mind the awful wind we get here sometimes, everywhere is so flat that it becomes a monotonous plague except for the unexpected eddy swirls when one's in some built-up area of shopping area.

Not so sad to say that after the tornado, howling winds, snowstorm, and sub zero weather the past few days that it's now turned into a gloomy rain filled day that's eliminating all the snow that was on the ground.

Worse thing with the weather over here the last 4 or 5 days has been the sheer volume of rain and the gusting winds. Winds from natural air currents, that is, I feel I must emphasize.

More expected today too.
Worst for me is the wind, as I can't use my 20m moxon if it's windy

To be honest, I find that the rain and/or the cold isn't the worst when I'm busy above the roof or up my antenna mast, it's the wind which blows all kinds of things out of reach just as I need them, such as covers for junctions that I'm about to screw on or loose cables that I'm about to connect, those kind of things. Besides that, clothing, small ropes, odd cable bits and stuff gets blown all over the place and usually either into the places that are unreachable or off where they're supposed to have stayed and onto the ground way down below. I'm sure that I've educated our neighbour about various words and phrases in the English language whilst I've been up there in those kind of conditions! Photography-wise, it is of course the combination of wind plus rain that's an absolute guarantee for the generation of 'alternative English' for me.

Yeah the wind is the worst for antennas. I operate portable a lot, car and mountain top in a tent. Last autumn I was up overnight on an exposed summit, it was windy the whole time. Just enough to be able to erect the 10m mast on my own, but howling through the system non stop, then on the Sunday whistling through the elements on the 70cms array on certain headings. Argh.

I skimped on the carrying, by saving about 1% of the total load by not taking 70cms phasing cables but using the longer 2m ones. I bungee and velcro ties to try to keep them tidy and vertical, and along the line of the boom to keep radiation pattern minimally disturbed

It started raining cats and dogs here - luckily just after I'd been up on both the garage roof and my outbuilding roof to sweep off all the leaves and crud that had accumulated causing the drains to block up after the last couple of downpours. The wind has started up again as well so I reckon I got up there just about the right time!

What with Christmas Day storms and Boxing Day storms, we ended up with about a foot and a half of snow by yesterday afternoon.

Last time I had even a foot of snow here was years ago! Plenty of iced days though, not the time to be on the roof, like I was some 5 years ago when busy with antenna cabling... Didn't realise, after some couple hours' rather intense & complex work, that it had got so low as to ice everything over on the roof, ended up with my wife calling from below followed by my having to crawl on all fours to the edge of the roof and reach the top of the ladder to get down to ground!

Aye, it's turning even colder out right now, so there's ice to be expected later on
