Carrying on with the theme of trying out macro a little more, I found a pigeon feather in my little props bag. A few drops of water, and this is the result. Comments and crits welcome...

Very nice. I have no criticism of the feather image, however I find that the frame within a frame pulls my eye away from the subject - it is an unnecessary distraction.

Thanks Mike. Do you mean the key line, which defines the edge of the photograph?

Nice one Pete, well composed with good diagonals and well placed droplets for a focal point. Low key really works for the contrasting lines in the feathers and personally I like the keyline. Without it you see an abrupt cutoff on the lhs where it fades out on the rhs, just doesn't look quite right.

Thanks Ryan - I'm with you on this, though to be fair, I quite like the one without the border, though I would need to do something with that LHS

Yes I like that better, however I meant to just remove the inner border rather than crop in. It is the negative space that will make the feather pop and most of that is gone now. Put that in a metal frame with a black mat (with black core) and you have something that will sell quickly. The image looks fine with the inner border but it seems contrived.

Cheers Mike, appreciate the comments!

Those droplets acting like lenses of their own... you could crop just around one of those it might even give a
surprising result!

I'm a fan of frames Pete so yours being subtle as it is doesn't worry me. I'm also a fan of your creative work and this is just another in your armory which is very appealing. Nice job on a lovely tickler mate. (both of them). The last one could be a seen as a Palm leaf roof on a tropical cabana!

Now that I like - gives an almost "misleading" or, better, "awesome alternative reality" to the image; it's a glass eye on the roof!
Cheers Trevor! Hadn't thought of looking at it in that way.

Thank you Greg! An interesting viewpoint - I can see that!
